Let’s Remember Our Persecuted Brothers and Sisters in Prayer
International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP)
Each year, Christians around the world set aside special Sundays to pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering persecution because of their faith.
The first and second Sundays of October are observed by some churches as days of prayer for the persecuted church. But let's not limit our prayers to just these special days. Let's remember them throughout the year, even every day, whenever they come to mind.

Recently, as I continued my regular Bible reading, Psalm 44 deeply touched my heart.
This powerful psalm recalls the wonderful things God has done in the past, yet at the same time expresses the anguish of those who are suffering in the present—those who feel as though God has abandoned them and cry out for Him to come to their rescue.
“Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!” (Psalm 44:23)
As I read these words, I could almost hear the cries of so many of our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering persecution because of their faith.
They are part of the same Body of Christ as we are. Even though their suffering may be taking place in distant countries, it is not something we can simply ignore.
The Bible reminds us:
“Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them.” (Hebrews 13:3)
And Paul himself wrote:
“Remember my chains.” (Colossians 4:18)
We must also remember that:
“If one member suffers, all suffer together.” (1 Corinthians 12:26)
Let's join together here in Japan and continue praying for the persecuted church around the world.
Let's remember those who are imprisoned for their faith, those who have lost their families, those who gather to worship in fear, and those whose very lives are in danger because they follow Jesus.
Let's pray for their families too.
Let's pray that even in the midst of suffering, they will not become offended at God or turn away from Him, but will continue to trust in His love and faithfulness, fully entrusting themselves into His care.
“Rise up; come to our help! Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!” (Psalm 44:26)
Not just on special days of prayer, but throughout our everyday lives, whenever they come to mind, let's lift up our brothers and sisters in prayer.
May the Lord strengthen them, protect them, and comfort them. And even in the midst of persecution, may the hope and love of Jesus Christ continue to shine brightly through their lives.
