Tips:
The PureHeart Challenge will require courage to look deep into your heart. It will take courage to ask the Lord to truly show you anything He wants to show and to follow Him into and through those places.
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive [pain, hurt, sorrow, idol]1 way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24
It will take courage to share these things with a sister in Christ. Vulnerability is key. Nearly all of my greatest moments of healing were in a beautiful moment with God and a sister in Christ. Vulnerability is a risk and takes great courage. I’ve been hurt before through being vulnerable in unwise situations. I’ve been judged and slandered. I’ve also been blessed beyond my wildest dreams through moments of mutual vulnerability in a context of genuine friendship. I’ve seen friends find freedom through this act of sharing my real heart, and they see that they can do the same.
Testimony from A, 20s: It was a blessing to share with my friend during the PureHeart Challenge. We felt safe to share our past hurts and experiences and found a common past. It deepened our sisterhood and inspired us to share about this topic to other women around us.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed [made whole, freed from sins2. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Let’s not keep anything locked away. When something is not in the light, it can keep us bound in lies and shame. When it’s in the light, Jesus shines His truth on it. Jesus said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness” (John 12:46). I want to get rid of ANYTHING that has entangled and hindered me. I want to do whatever it takes to be able to run this race well (Hebrews 12:1). When is the right time to start getting unhindered? The time is NOW!
