How do you feel about your sex drive?
Have you felt frustrated by the reality of having a sex drive as a single Christian? Do you resent your sex drive? Do you see your sex drive as something to be healed from? Do you ask God to take it away from you? Do you wonder, “Why did God give me a sex drive and he’s not giving me a husband?!”
Why, God, Why?! But... I trust You. I trust that Your ways are perfect. I trust how You have created me. And I trust that You have a way for me to cope in this. More than cope, I want to thrive, and I believe it’s possible to thrive.
For me, I consider sexuality and sex drive two separate things. Through healing (through beginning to see myself through God’s eyes, and see men through God’s eyes and not through lust), I have come to embrace and love the sexuality part of me - my femaleness. I feel that this part of me is like a stream of water - continually flowing (doesn’t get shut off) - beautiful and God-honoring.
My sex drive is more like the engine of a car that I have chosen to keep in ‘park’. I try to keep this in a calm state, because if it is raging, it’s like a car engine revving with nowhere to go. I try to keep this at rest by watching what I watch and what I think about, and when it is ‘revved up’, I pray for peace over it once again!
