Let’s discover what God’s Word says about knowing Him and intimacy with Him.
Some words that speak of physical intimacy in the Bible are: to know, to unite or cleave. Scriptures where these words are used give clues into what spiritual intimacy means to God!
To Know: Physical Intimacy
And Adam knew his wife, Eve... Genesis 4:1
The Hebrew word “yada”1 speaks of an intimate knowledge... a deeper knowledge than simply head knowledge. “To know, to learn, to make oneself known, to know with certainty. A familiar friend; an intimate friend.”
[Joseph] did not know [Mary] till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. Matthew 1:25 NKJV
The Greek word “ginóskó”2 speaks of experientially knowing - through personal experience (first-hand acquaintance).
To Know: Spiritual Intimacy
But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. John 14:17
But the man who loves God is known by God. 1 Corinthians 8:3
Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God - or rather are known by God... Galatians 4:8, 9
