To Unite

To Unite: Physical Intimacy

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Genesis 2:24

Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." 1 Corinthians 6:16

The Hebrew word “dabaq1 means to cling, cleave, keep close. The Greek equivalent word is “kollaó2 and means to to join oneself to; or fasten firmly together; to form an intimate connection with, enter into the closest relations with, unite oneself to; to give oneself steadfastly to. The Oxford dictionary3 defines it: stick fast to; adhere strongly to (a particular pursuit or belief); become very strongly involved with or emotionally attached to (someone).


To Unite: Spiritual Intimacy

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:17

... To love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to obey His commands, to hold fast to Him and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul... Do not serve the other gods or bow down to them. But you are to hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have until now. Joshua 22:5; 23:7-8

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:8
