As a single, I want to know how to go to the Lord for everything I need. I want to know how to be strong in the Lord; grounded in the knowledge of His love. I want to be healthy alone and healthy in community - to be an interdependent blessing to those God has placed around me.

Like Paul knew contentment both in plenty and in lack (Philippians 4:12), there is something deep and profound that comes from the experience of knowing Jesus in the moments of desperation when there was no one else but Him. Experiencing Him as the One who sees you and will never leave you nor forsake you. Fully receiving His love. Building a history with God where you know, deep in your core, His goodness and faithfulness and ever-present help in times of need. Being able to stand strong and healthy and whole, even if you find yourself in utter aloneness. Turning to Him in moments that tempt you greatly to escape into distractions. In those moments, something unseen yet very real is being built into your relationship with God. Instead of building a relationship with some distraction/escape in unpleasant times of pain, fear, or loneliness, learning to build a relationship with Him.

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:6-9 NIV
