Beauty

Just as men are attracted to beauty, women have a desire to be found beautiful. But this is more than skin-deep. Let’s see what God says.

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. 1 Peter 3:3-4 ESV

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears (and honors?) the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30

Beauty is another good thing created by God that can become a snare if it’s in the wrong place in our lives (such as vanity, preoccupation with appearance, neglecting development of inner qualities, etc.). Sometimes focusing too much on my beauty and wanting to be found beautiful can wake up my sexual desire and lust.

Know that you are found beautiful in God’s eyes. The Lord says to us: “How lovely you are, my darling.” Bask without inhibition in His light and blossom in His affection and attention.

You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. Song of Songs 4:7

Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. Psalm 45:11a

We know that our sexuality is God-given and good. Our bodies are designed by God and are good. The sexual parts of our bodies and our beauty are good. How do we honor God with our bodies, our sexuality, and our sexual feelings, especially in singleness?

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
